| Cutting the hub
tenons on the table saw. |
Cutting the 5/8" round tenons on
the hub. Note the wood strips under the workpiece. This positions the piece
high enough to keep the bit from damaging the tenon jig. |

| Cutting the spoke
side tapers. After the first cut is made, the stops must be repositioned to
hold the workpiece properly for the second side taper. Blade guard removed for
clearity. |
This shot shows how
the workpiece is mounted for cutting side tapers. (The spoke is this photo is a
finished spoke but it shows a clear view of how the spoke is mounted.) |
| Note: the above pictures show an
old jig I used in the past. For this purpose I recommend the table saw jig for
which free plans are offered on this site.

| Drilling the
dowell holes in the felloes. The felloe must be positioned so the forstner bit
is 90° to the end surface of the felloe. |
Cutting the tenon
holes for the spokes. The supports under the felloe must be spaced an equal
distance from the center of the forstner bit. If not, the spoke won't point to
the center of the hub and the pieces won't fit correctly. |

Making a hub on the lathe. (The finished
hub must be cut in half so it can be inserted in the hub cavity.) |
